Endurance test of industrial demonstrator in 2017
Kaiserslautern, Karlsruhe, Dresden – Superconductors offer practically loss-free transmission of large quantities of electric power and could soon be the basis of new cost-saving feeder busbars for energy intensive industrial processes. In Germany, Vision Electric Super Conductors (VESC), Kaiserslautern, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), and the Institute of Air Handling and Refrigeration (ILK), Dresden, are developing a superconducting modular busbar system for commercial application.

Kaiserslautern – A new generation of current leads for superconducting power transport systems is being developed by Vision Electric Super Conductors, the specialist for superconducting busbars, in cooperation with the Technical University of Kaiserslautern, Germany. Innovative concepts and new scientific approaches are applied to achieve significantly lower operating costs of commercially applied superconducting busbars.

Superconductors to Facilitate Grid Connection of Wind Farms
Cost-calculation tool by VESC and Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences
Kaiserslautern – Growing difficulties to find suitable feed-in points in power grids affect wind power expansion and wind farm modernization in Germany. Superconductors may provide a convenient technical solution according to a study performed by Vision Electric Super Conductors GmbH and Kaiserslautern Technical University of Applied Sciences with funding from the Investment and Economic Development Bank of the Federal State of Rhineland Palatinate. The project partners propose to connect wind power plants to the grid by means of superconducting busbars and present a corresponding Excel-based calculation tool for project specific cost assessments.
